Some things that make my game look better.
Companions and NPCs
Dragon Age Redesigned by Dracomies. A global replacer which improves the facial proportions, textures, and situational appropriateness of many named and ambient NPCs in both DAO and DAA. Comes in three flavours: Aesthetics (emphasis on beauty and proportion), Lore (subtle tweaking of original Bioware designs), and Recommended (a balanced mix of Aesthetics and Lore).
I install the Recommended version as a base, and overlay it with selected morphs from the following mods, removing conflicting *.mor files as needed. (Many of these replacers have dependencies on other mods.):
Pretty Dragon Age by Jen.
Dalish Elves Beautified by zkahana.
DA2 Merrill and Marethari for DAO by incendiaire.
Duchell’s Loghain by Duchell.
Cullen Redux by nocheinmal. (Dracomies version)
Rak’s Jowan [mirror] by rak72.
Ginger Gilmore Morph by rak72.
Chibievils Teagans New Look by chibievil. Gets rid of Teagan’s foofy braid. I’ll probably be replacing this in the future with my own morph, as this one also changes his nose slightly.
Qunari update by tmp7704. Alters the appearance of all Kossith (including Sten) to more closely resemble the DA2 model.
Shale Retextured HD by jolly2807. Higher resolution retexture of Shale.
Lothering Hawke of Ferelden by TommyIrianto. Turns the Helpful Refugee (outside Dane’s Refuge in Lothering) into the DA2 Hawke of your choice. Good for a giggle, but I probably won’t bother with this in the future.
Elf Update by tmp7704. Changes the appearance of elves to reflect the DA2 model. I have not actually played with this mod as of this writing, but I have used it for testing purposes and will be transitioning to this facial model for my next install. The NPC replacer is incomplete, and does not cover Awakening, other DLC, or areas such as Ostagar and the Circle Tower. Also includes a body proportions component that I find to be problematic and will not be using.
World textures and meshes
There is a paucity of general texture replacers for DAO/DAA.
JB3textures by reative24. Fake hi-res versions of the vanilla textures. I’m actually not sure if these are better or worse. My install is of the core package + updates only.
Hazy Sun by tmp7704. Softens the harsh delineation of the sun’s edge for a more natural, atmospheric effect.
Coordinated Ferelden architecture by tmp7704. Adjusts the textures and tonality of the different architectural tilesets, for a more unified appearance.
Mesh lightmap fixes by tmp7704. From the mod’s description: “Default version of some of the level models can cause problems when calculating light maps for the area, resulting in some parts of it becoming unlit. (These) Replacement versions fix these issues, while remaining otherwise identical.” And who am I to argue with that?
Dalls New Common Dresses by Dall. Retextures of most of the ‘Common’ dress variations. I install an a la carte selection, rather than the entire package.
Creature textures

Dalls Mabari by Dall.
Lady of the Forest and Desire Demon Retextures by DariusBlack. I omit the nude Desire Demon texture.
Dalls Werewolfs by Dall. I use the ‘Normal’ texture set.

Dalls DarkSpawn by Dall.

Dalls Dead and Undead by Dall.
Pride Demon Origins to Awakening Retex by jolly2807. Gives DAO Pride Demon the darker texture and glowing eyes of the DAA version.
The comprehensive JB3 package contains textures which will conflict with many of those contained in smaller, more specialized mods. Therefore, I install the JB3 textures to \[game install location]\packages\core\override, as opposed to \My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override. I then install the more specialized mods to the the normal \My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override directory, as the game should give priority to those files. (Or hand-compare mods and omit conflicting files, to install everything to the My Docs override location.)
